Interior Design Solution – Decorating a little girl’s bedroom
Sarah from Donegal wanted some help re-styling and decorating her seven year old daughter’s bedroom. It has already been painted pale pink and she’s concerned about it becoming much too pink for her liking. Her 7 year old loves flowers, pink and purple. Sarah wants designs that will last for some time, rather than getting curtains or blinds that will just be a passing fad.
I love Designers Guild’s Primrose Hill and Portobello collections – for both boys and girls but especially for girls. Designers Guild’s bedlinen ranges Mulberry Walk and Floral Street are floral and feminine, contains plenty of pink and purple, yet have enough lime green and turquoise to give them zest and cool down the ‘too girly’ look.
Sarah is keen to keep the walls clear for posters, pictures, shelves etc. For the window treatment then, choices could include the Floral Street or Mulberry Walk fabrics to match the bedlinen or a design that would ‘last longer’ in that it would co-ordinate with many different bedlinen designs and curtains need to and will last longer than bedlinen. One of the fabrics I would suggest is Portobello – a vibrant striped 100% cotton that does contain all the colours that are within the bedlinen – pinks, greens, turquoise and white. This design would look fabulous in roman blinds too – which would mean less fabric would be required.
At a later date, accessories such as rugs and cushions could be added if desired. Now, this is shaping up to be a bedroom that any little girl would love.

I absolutely LOVE that you can tell this is a little girls room, without the need for the walls to all be painted pink. The layout and accessories can all be easily swapped out as the child grows and matures. The Mulberry Walk bed set is adorable!
